WORK WANTED
My name is Olivier Rivet. Landscaper in France for 12 years, I am currently undergoing a vocational retraining. I discovered the profession of log builder recently, with Fredéric Montiel (Les Fustes de Fred) and it was a revelation for me. Curious and open-minded, I want to learn new skills, to know new ways of working and to discover another culture. So I’m looking for an employer willing to teach me the craft and take me on as a trainee, in the Mississauga area, starting in March 2021. NEW GRADUATES
New graduates from The Island School of Building in all three Big Wood courses: Log Building, Timber Frame Post and Beam and Timber Frame Hammer Bents, there was only one seat in one course that was not taken. This new crop of graduates are excited about adding Log and Timber skills to their toolboxes, whether it’s with the end goal of working in industry, building their own structures or designing for clients.
This is great news for our industry and we know that our Log and Timber Frame graduates will take their skills out into the world. Working with Big Wood is an honourable tradition and we invite Log and Timber Frame companies to get in touch, or stay in touch, with ISBA and we will connect you to our graduates – and your potential employees.
Mattieu Lienhard, a bilingual student from Germany, is seeking a 6 to 12-month handcrafted log building apprenticeship in Canada. An ILBA member, Matthieu attended the 2019 Conference in the Black Forest. Matt has been working on an enchanting playground built from logs as part of his schooling. He is looking for “… an opportunity to learn handcrafted log building skills and discover the local culture of wherever that opportunity might be.”
