About Us

Murray Arnott Design is an award-winning log home design firm with over 35 years experience designing log homes. We work all over North America and internationally. Our philosophy, experience and process allow us to work closely with clients to produce exceptional one-of-a-kind log homes, timber frame homes and post and beam homes using principles of timeless sustainable design. We apply the same philosophy to luxury homes and small budget cabins. We carry it into all planning, from kitchen and bathroom design to bedrooms and laundry rooms. Murray Arnott’s commitment to the highest standards of quality and service began over thirty years ago when he was a carpenter and builder in British Columbia. After studying architecture at McGill University, he moved to one of the world’s premier winter resorts, Whistler, BC, where he designed numerous wonderful log homes throughout the eighties and nineties, including homes in other regions of Canada and the United States.
In 1998, Murray was awarded Best Home in British Columbia for a home in its size category. The article Into the Unknown: The Voyage of Creative Risk, gives some insight into Murray’s philosophy behind the design of this home and the creative process. The recognition he received from this home led Murray to offer his services throughout North America and around the world. Since then, Murray Arnott Design has won numerous major awards, including Best Home in North America twice.
His leadership and association with the International Log Builders’ Association, where he has served in numerous roles, including President, has kept him at the forefront of log building technology. He has developed close relationships with many of the finest log home and timber builders in the world. In addition, Murray strives to be in touch with the interests and desires of would-be log home owners. He has been a consultant to numerous log industry publications and, for several years, wrote the Design Column for Log Home Living Magazine. His book, ON DESIGN: Designing a Better Log Home, has received both awards and glowing reviews.
